Student Government Association

Participating in student government at Glenforest School involves far more than holding an office or being a grade representative. SGA promotes and encourages fellowship, activities and interests among students in academic excellence, leadership and citizenship.

The Student Government Association serves as the link among the student body, the faculty and administration. Each week, the SGA officers coordinate school-wide meetings. During this time, they announce upcoming events, recognize individuals who have earned academic or sports honors and report on highlights of the previous week’s events.

During the summer, the Student Government participates in the SCISA Summer Leadership Conference. This event is a one-day event where members can interact with the members of other SCISA schools. In the fall, the officers attend SCISA’s Fall Conference at the S.C. State House, and all members attend the SCISA Spring Conference at Myrtle Beach. During the Spring Conference, Glenforest School has received the SCISA Student Council of the Year award (Division II) for the 2008-2009  and the 2009-2010 school years.

Throughout the year, SGA organizes social events and fund-raising efforts for charities such as Epworth Children’s Home, Samaritan’s Feet, Adopt-A-Highway and organizations helping those with cystic fibrosis, autism and multiple sclerosis. SGA members also represent Glenforest School at community functions, such as Rotary and Optimist club meetings.

The officers include president, first and second vice president, recording secretary and historian. One student represents each grade as class senator. The officer and senior senator election is held annually in May. Other class senators are elected each August.
