Lower School – Elementary Program

Elementary / Lower School Program

At the Glenforest School we value our Elementary students and their learning differences. Our teachers have over 35 years of combined experience in caring for special classroom needs.

We all enjoy music!

Our accommodations our designed to benefit each child where they are at in order to best care for them and provide them with a strong education.  In fact our activities keep us so busy we don’t have time to worry about things, if you would like to see what we do please see our schedule.

Here is a recent Welcome letter to parents for 2010-2011 School year so please come visit our classroom!

Glenforest Elementary teachers are prepared to help the students in every way possible. We have worked with Professionals from the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, Family Therapists including students with needs like: physical, speech and language. We have great communication with area Psychologists, SSI/Disability Services, area School Districts, Guidance Counselors, and past student’s teachers.

Our family meetings with our parents of our students include family updates, medication changes, and academic planning.  When you get to know us you will see no matter is too small to address because our children are a joy to work with. We have multiple activities and programs for the students to participate in:

  • Fun projects for every book we read
  • Hands-on activities are used to promote interest and learning
  • Project Read is our multi-sensory reading program in class
  • Touch Math is the hands-on math program in class
  • Cooperative group activities provide the students with an opportunity to work on social skills, listening skills and following directions
  • Students participate in Fun Friday activities each week
  • High school students work with the elementary classes as student aides
  • Assignments are broken into small tasks
  • No set time limits for completing work
  • Field trips and spring experience are addressed below

So if you find yourself frustrated with tears at home about homework, or maybe you have been told your child is not able to do the work yet you see them achieving in other areas perhaps a visit for a few hours could be an encouragement to you?  It does not matter if you are enrolled at Glenforest, we are here to be a resource to you and your family so please email me if you have questions.
