Teacher Professional Development
“We not only encourage learning, we challenge ourselves to learn.” – Glenforest Teaching Staff
The teachers at Glenforest are life-long learners and have been actively involved in many professional development opportunities over the years. We range in years of experience from first year teachers to more than 20 plus year veterans. Our comprehensive skills allow us to effectively meet each student’s needs. Here are just a few we would like to mention
- Professional Organizations – Our teachers are members of professional organizations within their field. Through these organizations they can keep up to date on issues and best practices within their area of expertise.
- Mentor Training- New teachers to Glenforest are mentored by a fellow teacher.
- Summer Institutes – The ongoing certifications include such areas as Mathematics, Social Skills, Reading, Student Development and much, much more. In fact some of our teachers are asked to present to other educators in order to better assist in the education of children with learning differences.
- SCISA Workshops – Our teachers attend multiple state certification body groups for K-12 education with the South Carolina Independent School Association to hear local authorities in their respective subject matter such as History, Science, and Elementary / Early Childhood education.
- In-House Workshops – Glenforest teachers learn from guest speakers who share their expertise in such areas like Autism, Dyslexia, Aspergers syndrome, ADHD, and many others.
- Continuing Education – Glenforest teachers attend various workshops in the state and across the country to further their knowledge in best practice within their teaching field and in special education.
- ETV / South Carolina – Workshops are often listed online at: http://scetv.org/index.php/learn/ Such workshops include SmartBoard skills, and computer resources.
- Webinars – Glenforest teachers participate in webinars highlighting current teaching practices and student issues, like No Bullying and Zero Tolerance programming.
- Faculty Library – Glenforest teachers have access to a growing faculty library where they can borrow materials to enhance their knowledge of students with learning differences and special education issues.
- Glenforest Hosts Group Speakers – Outside agencies such as Pro Parents often partner to host well known speakers in the special education realm at Glenforest School. Our teachers are often at these conferences as well.
